Review | Try Innisfree Water Glow Cushion for a sheer, no-makeup look

Are you looking for a high-coverage cushion? If so, this is not for you. Innisfree Water Glow Cushion with its sheer coverage is more suitable for someone who wants a barely-there makeup look. If this is what you seek, it’s worthwhile that you stay on and check out this review.

Typical Packaging

Comes in a 15g container, the packaging of Innisfree Water Glow Cushion looks no different from other cushions in the market. A soft blue puff lets you pick up the liquid from the sponge. When you are done, place the puff onto the tier that adds as a hygienic divider between the puff and the sponge.

Sheerer-than-sheer Coverage

This wasn’t love at first sight. On first application, I thought the coverage was a little too sheer even for someone (like me) who prefers a natural look.

Sheer coverage

Innisfree Water Glow Cushion evened my skin tone and covered some redness. However, it was less able to hide more intense redness such as active pimples.

Covered mild redness, but red pimple on chin still shows

I wasn’t expecting to like it, but I did after using it continuously for two weeks. It’s not love yet, but it’s definitely on my “repurchase” radar. Why so?

Number One – When it’s layered on my sunscreen that doubles up as a makeup base, the coverage improved by a small notch.

Why did I layer a high-coverage sunscreen onto Innisfree Water Glow cushion which also has a high SPF coverage? We call it “Kiasu” in Singapore. It means “scared to lose”.

I brisk-walk daily for about an hour under the hot sun. So this double protection is very much needed.

Number Two – I am spotting less pimples lately. Hence, I have no issues with angry red pimples showing up.

Number Three – I find it very useful on days when I don’t want to appear like I have makeup on.

Number Four – When layered with Innisfree Mineral Ultrafine Pact, the coverage gets pushed up further. You can achieve medium coverage with this combination.

No Pimples, Rare for a High SPF Product

I breakout very often. It gets even worse with SPF products and BB/CC cream (I categorize Cushion as being in the same family as BB cream). What impressed me about Innisfree Water Glow Cushion is that it doesn’t clog my pores. I get zero pimples from it and have tested it under harsh conditions, e.g. being out in the sun for extended period, when pores are opened or wearing it for longer-than-long hours.

This is also why I believe there is a high chance of me repurchasing Innisfree Water Glow Cushion.

Dewy, Glowy Finish

It has a dewy finish and gives your face a light sheen. I wasn’t in love with the sheen and the slight sticky after-feel initially. On some angles, the glow can highlight the pores. During the first few attempts, I’d quickly layered with Innisfree Mineral Ultrafine Pact to hide the glow and to provide additional coverage.

Wearing only Innisfree Water Glow Cushion (No. 21)

Recently, I’ve had the chance of wearing this product alone, without any powder. Guess what? I’m starting to like the “luminous glow”. Maybe I’ve grown accustomed to the ‘glow’. Or perhaps I’m using it more on occasions when I don’t want people to think I have makeup on – think of sports outings or grocery trips….yeah, the vain “me” needs to wear makeup on ALL occasions. Ok…not all. It’s strictly no-makeup when I jog.

Color is Fairer…

Luckily, I get to test the colors in store. Although I’m using No.13 for my face powder, I needed No.21 for this cushion.

Even then, this No. 21 looks a little fair on me.

For your reference, Mac told me that my skintone is “NW20” for their Studio Fix Liquid Foundation.

High SPF Coverage

This product comes with high UV protection of SPF50+ PA+++.

Moisturizing but can get Oily

Innisfree Water Glow Cushion is marketed as a “moisture-lasting” face product. I’m currently undergoing laser facial and have dehydrated skin. This product goes on well and doesn’t cause flakiness to show.  It can however look oily by mid-day (summer climate).

Those with oily skin may like to consider layering it on with Innisfree Mineral Ultrafine Pact. If you don’t already know, I really love that powder.

So in summary:

What’s Good?

  1. Safe for pimple-prone skin
  2. Good for occasions when you want to look good without looking like you a tonne of makeup on
  3. Great for those who like a moisturizing face product

What’s Not so Great?

  1. May be too sheer for some
  2. Can get oily by mid-day

For those who are prone to pimples, Innisfree Water Glow Cushion is highly recommended. For the same reason, I will be repurchasing this. Rating: 4/5
