Review of 5 Acid Body Peel from MUAC | Smoother skin takes time

Longing for baby-soft and smooth skin for your body, to complement your well-exfoliated face? I do and have bought the 5 Acid Body Peel about a month ago from Makeup Artist’s Choice (MUAC).

Be Patient with Superficial Peels

I was so eager to share with you the results, but was getting really impatient as I did not see immediate results. I was about to give it a low rating, but reminded myself that more time should be given since 5 Acid Body Peel is a superficial peel. As I’ve written earlier, superficial peel is a ‘slow and steady’ option as compared with harsher peels such as TCA or VI Peel. The ‘no-downtime’ also means that a series of sessions is required for visible results to be seen.

Finally, after 4 peels which were done a week apart, I am ready to share the review of MUAC’s 5 Acid Body Peel with you.

5 Acid Body Peel from MUAC

There’s a sample size (30ml) that you can purchase for USD12.50. I bought the full-size bottle (240ml) for USD52.50 before discount.

This peel contains 5 types of acid:

  • 20% Lactic Acid
  • 5% Glycolic Acid
  • 5% Mandelic Acid
  • 2% Citric Acid
  • 1% Salicylic Acid

This body acid can be applied all over your body, including the neck and chest (but no no to genital or rectal areas ok?).

It was advertised as being able to rejuvenate and exfoliate the body beautifully. The full list of benefits is as shown below:

Benefits

  • Exfoliate the skin.
  • Deep clean pores of oils and dirt on the body.
  • Fade acne scars, marks from ingrown hairs, etc.
  • Reduce “crepe paper” skin.
  • Brighten skin.
  • Stimulate collagen production for a more youthful glow to the skin.
  • Overall rejuvenation.

How to Apply 5 Acid Body Peel?

If you purchase the 5 Acid Body Peel from MUAC, you’ll receive an instruction card that tells you exactly what to do. Let me briefly summarize the instructions:

  • Do a patch test on a small area. Wait for 24 hours.
  • Apply serum to clean, dry skin
  • Leave on for 10 minutes
  • Step into the shower and rinse thoroughly
  • Pat skin dry and moisturize

The bottle also has a brief description on what needs to be done.

Now, here’s how I did it.

Step 1: Quick Rinse

I took a quick shower since the instruction indicated that this be used on clean skin.

Step 2: Application

Making sure that my body has dried completely, I then applied the serum with my bare hands.

I covered my whole body with the serum, including chest, hands, back, torso, legs and feet.

There was a really slight tingling sensation, maybe 1/2 out of 10. The tingling sensation was less than the ones I had with 40% Lactic Acid. In fact, I only felt the tingling on my first 2 attempts.

Step 3: Wait & Rinse

The 5 Acid Body Peel was left on for 10 minutes before I rinsed it off with water. I followed with shower foam just to make sure that the acid was completely washed off.

TIPS

1) Entertain yourself

If you don’t want to feel bored, please bring in some entertainment device (e.g. mobile phone) into the bathroom. It’s better to engage in hands-free entertainment such as watching a video or tuning in to a radio programme.

Don’t bother with surfing the net or reading an e-book as you will not be able to touch the screen once you have the acid on your palms.

2) Wear a slipper

Wear a slipper to ensure that your feet which are covered with the serum, do not touch the ground. I’m assuming that the floor would be wet and water will dilute the acid strength.

3) Set timer

Set a 10-min timer via your watch or mobile phone.

Any Downtime with 5 Acid Body Peel?

Absolutely zero downtime for me. The only areas that consistently peeled during the 4 attempts are my palms.

This is a photo of my palm on Day 3. It’s shiny and dry and have yet to peel.

This is a photo of my right palm which started peeling on Day 4.

On Day 5, my right palm had completed most of its peeling, while the left palm had just started peeling.

Other than my palm, I did not see any peeling on the rest of my body, with the exception of the back of my left arm which peeled a little (1 inch X 1 inch), but only during the 4th attempt.

Although, there was no visible peeling on the other areas, it doesn’t mean that its not effective. Exfoliation often takes place at the cellular level and may not always be apparent to the naked eyes.

The Results: 5 Acid Body Peel

Finally, after 4 weeks, I was able to see some results. My skin was less crepe-like. It is slightly smoother and softer. Check out the before-after photos below.

After (4th peel)

I can see that there’s still plenty of room for improvement and I will continue to apply 5 Acid Body Peel weekly. Up till now, I’ve only used up about 10% of the content.

Let’s take a look again at the before-after photo. I’ve zoomed in on the areas where the camera’s focus was on. This body acid works does seem to work although patience is required. Rating: 4/5

  1. Thank you for the wonderful review! The before and after picture helped me decide to buy this product. Have you tried the Makeup Artist’s Choice AHA Hand and Body Lotion?

    1. Hi mangomadness, you’re welcome. Glad you’ve found the review useful. I have not tried the AHA hand and body lotion. Coincidentally, I was surfing their website yesterday trying to figure out what I would get this time round. I’ll review more MUAC products soon. Stay tuned. Oh, and don’t forget to get 25% off your purchase through a link in my post. Happy shopping.

  2. Thank you for posting your review. I think I am going to try it! Have you kept using it and if so, have you noticed more improvement?

    1. Hi Liz, unfortunately, I suffered a second degree burn on a small portion of my hand while using the hair curler. Hence, I have been avoiding acidic body products for the time being. But I’m sure you’ll be able to notice improvement with regular use. Enjoy!

  3. I have been using the muac 40% lactic acid on my face for a few years. I love it. The few sun spots I had are gone and my skin is smooth and glowing. I am 54. Please follow directions. MUAC is an awesome company.

    1. Thank you for your sharing. It’s great to know that with continuous use, even sun spots can be removed. I’m also using 40% lactic acid and 40% glycolic acid and have reviewed them separately. I love both of them, but my favorite has to be glycolic acid because it seems to give me more obvious results.

  4. hi do you think it will work to get rid of dark inner thighs and dirty looking skin and to even out skin tone? I’ve been looking for a body peel that can help me solve my skin problems.. i even have crepe paper like skin..

    1. You may need a stronger peel to achieve what you are aiming for. But I’m sure this would be a good start especially if you are new to chemical acid. You can see how much this can help you achieve before moving on to higher strength.

        1. Hi there, the highest at-home peel I’ve tried is 40% Glycolic Acid peel. Though still considered a superficial peel, do use it with care. If you approach medical professionals, they can give you medium peel that requires down time of up to a week. Relevant reviews done on these peels are:

  5. Hi Nicole, can I find out how u managed to ship the MUAC products to Sg? I’m itching to try the peels after reading your rave reviews.
    Thanks.
